The World’s End is here! The World’s End is here!

Or at the least the trailer is. I just watched it and am considerably geeked out. It looks great, right in line with the kind of work that Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have brought us in the past. I’m talking about 2004’s Shaun of the Dead and 2007’s Hot Fuzz. I loved both movies for bending genres in the most hilarious fashion.

Now the trio is taking on the alien invader genre and it looks damn funny. The film stars Pegg and Frost, as well as Paddy Considine, Eddie Marsan, and most notably, Martin Freeman (you know him as Tim for the UK’s The Office, or more recently as Bilbo in The Hobbit). Once, when the five men were just young lads, they had a mission to visit 12 pubs in one night, having a pint at each one. They did not succeed. But now, decades later, Pegg’s character is rounding them all up to give it a second go back in their old hometown of New Haven. The only problem is that the town has been taken over by aliens (of the body snatching kind, it seems). So as usual our boys find themselves in a life-threatening situation, but at least there are a lot of pubs around. That worked out well when zombies were the ones chasing them? (Or did that work out well at all?)

Enough yapping, here’s the trailer. The World’s End comes to the U.S. on August 23, 2013. Save the date.
