New Releases in Theaters – June 13, 2014

Background with Film Reel - In Theaters - June 13

Sequel weekend!!! Let’s have a look at the two new sequels coming to theaters this weekend and whether they look good or not.

22 Jump Street

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are back as the less-than-capable cops posing as youngsters to infiltrate a crime syndicate. And it looks just as hilarious as the first one! It’s not often for a movie trailer to get me laughing out loud, but the trailers for this one have got me going several times. Unfortunately that means I won’t be laughing at those same jokes when I see it in theaters, but I bet there will be plenty more to laugh at.

This is one of my most anticipated movies of the year. Reviews are looking good, and so far the RottenTomatoes score is at 83% which is on par with 21 Jump Street‘s score of 85%.

How to Train Your Dragon 2

Okay, so I borrowed my nephew’s copy of How to Train Your Dragon about a year ago, but I haven’t gotten around to watching it. I’ve only heard good things about it, particularly how awe-inspring the flight sequences were in 3D on the big screen. I’ll never see it that way, but I do vow to see the DVD at some point. But until I do, I cannot see this sequel.

According to IMDB, “when Hiccup and Toothless discover an ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace.” It’s at 92% on RottenTomatoes. That’s a slight fall from the original’s 98%, but not bad at all.
