My Movie Wishlist: Upstream Color

What’s it about? “A man and woman are drawn together, entangled in the life cycle of an ageless organism. Identity becomes an illusion as they struggle to assemble the loose fragments of wrecked lives.” —IMDB

Who made it? Written and directed by Shane Carruth.

Who’s in it? Shane Carruth, Amy Seimetz, and Andrew Sensenig.

When’s it coming out? April 5, 2013.

Why do I want to see it?

  • Because Shane Carruth wrote and directed one of the best time travel movies of all time: Primer. From that alone he’s earned my trust.
  • Because while the trailer pushes me away with is seeming abundant disjointedness (almost reminiscent of Tree of Life—not my favorite movie, not by a long shot), it also pulls me in with its mystery and intrigue. I mostly just want to know what it’s about.
  • Because it has Sound of My Voice vibe, which I liked a lot in parts, but whose ending was frustrating. (Read that review here.)

How much do I want to see it on a scale of 1 to 5?
3.5 I want to see this, with hesitations. I have hopes that it’ll be good, but I’m afraid the plot will be too confusing and murky.

And the trailer?
